Script Editors

Script editors are one of the most senior members of the production staff working on televisions programs and sometimes on films. It is more common to find script editors working on television shows, especially those that are serialised into weekly episodes.

 

The primary role of script editors is overseeing the working of script writers and ensuring that any scripts they produce are of a high enough standard to be produced. Script editors will usually work very closely with the writers suggesting improvements and changes as they work. Script editors will also be responsible for ensuring correct continuity between the scripts for different episodes, particularly on shows where there are several different writers. Script editors are usually full time members of the production team for the programs they’re working on, unlike the writers themselves who frequently come and go.

 

Many script editors get into their line of working by starting off as script writers, often doing freelance work for several different shows and garnering the experience they require to progress to the level of script editor, taking up a full time position on the production team of a program.

 

Many people would like to pursue a career as script editors; however they must first establish themselves as a writer. There are many script writing course available for aspiring writers, however many of the most well known writers simply work freelance in their own time.
